No, I don’t mean to ride, although I bet that is true too. Electric cars, ride share services and self driving technology are all very exciting and for good reason. One technology that deserves more attention is electric bikes and scooters.
In addition to serving as a green alternative to transportation powered by fossil fuels, electric bikes help with several emerging urbanization issues. We simple cannot build substantially more roads and congestion will only be helped marginally by smarter road designs and systems. Fundamentally we need to reduce the number of cars. One solution is, of course, mass transit. But small, electric vehicles can dramatically increase the passenger capacity of a given mile of roadway and deserves more attention.
